Natural and Synthetic Grass

Natural grass is a living, biodegradable system requiring high maintenance (mowing, watering, fertilizing) but offering natural cooling, ecosystem support, and lower upfront costs, while synthetic grass is a durable, low-maintenance plastic alternative that stays green year-round, resists wear, but has higher initial costs, environmental concerns (plastics, heat), and doesn’t support wildlife. The choice depends on priorities: natural for ecology and feel, synthetic for convenience and heavy use.
Natural Grass
- Pros: Biodegradable, natural cooling, supports insects/wildlife, improves air quality, lower upfront cost, softer feel, reduces runoff.
- Cons: High maintenance (mowing, watering, fertilizing), prone to weeds/pests, goes dormant, can get patchy, requires significant water.
Synthetic Grass (Artificial Turf)
- Pros: Very low maintenance (cleaning only), uniform green look, durable, great for high-traffic areas, excellent drainage (with proper base), no watering/fertilizing needed.
- Cons: High upfront cost, plastic materials (non-biodegradable, pollution), gets very hot, doesn’t support ecosystems, can smell (urine), requires eventual landfill disposal, potential for higher injury risk (abrasions).
